CyM Green Hydrogen is the vector in the energy transition of small mining in Chile
Currently Cobre y Metales is not only a buyer of ore or copper concentrate. CyM has always considered supporting small-scale mining in Chile as part of its mission, whether through pre-financing, maintenance support, production control and/or logistics services.
In this same spirit, CyM is developing an energy supply offer to its mining clients.
Why energy?
• Because energy is more than 30% of the fixed costs of a small flotation plant.
• Because the location of small mining generally prevents connection to the electricity grid, thus forcing the use of diesel generators.
• Because the problem of availability and the lack of adequacy of diesel generators with operational requirements is a significant disadvantage for continuous and optimized production.
To really be the vector in the energy transition of small mining, CyM is today the distributor in Chile of the French hydrogen generators H2SY (https://h2sys.fr)
In parallel, CyM is building a photovoltaic plant at its site in San Ignacio, in the Second Region.
The next stage is the construction of a green hydrogen generation plant.
CyM is a member of the “Hydrogen Task Force”, of the Franco-Chilean chamber (https://www.camarafrancochilena.cl/afiliarse/ser-socio.html) and a member of the Sustainable Development Club.
These are some of the active initiatives in which Cobre y Metales is working for a greener future in the field of mining in Chile.
